On Monday, July 16th, 2012, 75 Golfers and 50 Tennis Players teamed up together on this tropical sunny summer day at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, Long Island for a fun-filled event - while the SASS Foundation for Medical Research raised funds for breast cancer research.

This wonderful event culminated in the evening with a special Awards Presentation to Dr. Ayca Gucalp, Hematology-Oncology Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (?MSKCC?). Dr. Gucalp has been chosen as The SASS Foundation?s Carol Litwin Memorial Research Fellow by a select committee of physicians for the cutting edge research that she is working on in the department of breast cancer medicine at MSKCC. Dr. Frank Arena, SASS Foundation President & Co-Founder, presented Dr. Gucalp with a check and award to signify the beginning of two years of The SASS Foundation grant support. Also in attendance was Dr. Gucalp?s mentor, Dr. Clifford Hudis, Chief of Breast Cancer Medicine at MSKCC.

To date, nearly $200,000.00 has been raised through the efforts of the participants, supporters and sponsors of the SASS Foundation?s Golf and Tennis Outing.
Martin D. Sass, Chairman and Co-Founder of The SASS Foundation applauded the hard working efforts of the co-chairs, Golf - Phil Sivin; Tennis ? Bob Litwin; and Mah Jongg ? Lara Sass Sivin. Marty also thanked Dill Ayres, COO of Cold Spring Harbor Labs, for sponsoring The Foundation at Piping Rock. The SASS Foundation is also currently funding a special research project in Leukemia at CSHL.
