Cheteshwar Pujara says he feels comfortable playing with Gayle ? Cricket News Update

Emerging Gujarat batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing season six of the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), on Tuesday stated that he feels very comfortable when he has a swashbuckling partner like Chris Gayle at the other end.

Pujara?s comments have come after he shared a 102-run opening stand with the talismanic West Indies top order batsman to help the Royal Challengers post a challenging total of 190 for 3 from 20 overs in an IPL fixture against the Kings XI Punjab, in Mohali last night. Pujara smashed a 48-ball 51 while Gayle returned with a pugnacious 61 off just 33, studded with three sixes and six fours.

While speaking the media reporters after the match, Pujara said that having Gayle at the other end takes a lot of pressure of scoring quick runs off him, and this helps him play his natural game and score runs.

?As an opener I feel really comfortable because of the way he hits the ball. I don't have to be under pressure of scoring quick runs. And even seeing him from the non-striker's end - the way he is hitting the ball - it is incredible,? said the 25-year-old Gujarat batsman.?

The heroics of the duo, however, went in vain as a dropped catch of David Miller, by skipper Virat Kohli cost them the game. Kohli dropped the South African middle order batsman in the 13th over when he was on 41, and capitalizing on the chance, Miller returned unbeaten on 101 to help his side win the high scoring encounter by six wickets, with two overs to spare.

Despite ending up on the losing side, Pujara was pleased with his efforts saying getting a half century was a great feeling.

?It is a great feeling to get a half-century. I was a bit shaky at the starting of the innings. But once I settled down, I could play my natural shots. I was working hard at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) for my recovery, and I even worked on my batting and fielding. It is paying off now. So, I am really happy about it,? concluded the right hander.
