City teachers union president to retire

John Tarka, president of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, announced today that he will retire Aug. 31.

Mr. Tarka, 65, has been with the city school district for 43 years and became head of the teachers union in 2005.

The union's executive board today selected Nina Esposito-Visgitis to replace him.
